Appalachian Power Plans New Boat Ramp Project

A one-million dollar boat ramp project has just been approved by Appalachian Power Company near Halesford Bridge at Smith Mountain Lake.

The double-boat ramp will allow greater public access to the lake and will include a 62 space parking area, walkway and fishing pier.

Construction on the pier will begin this fall and is expected to be completed in spring of 2014.

The facility will also utilize dusk-to-dawn lights and will be "dark skies" compatible, meaning that none of the light will shine on other properties.

The boat ramp will be maintained by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
